WHAT IS CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE (CVD):

CVD is any abnormal condition characterized by dysfunction of the heart and blood vessels.

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is any abnormal condition characterized by malfunction of the heart and blood vessels. CVD includes atherosclerosis (especially coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attacks), cerebrovascular disease (eg, stroke), and hypertension (high blood pressure). In many cases, it is caused by atherosclerosis, the narrowing of the blood vessels due to fatty buildups of plaque. Coronary heart disease leads to an increased risk for heart attack, heart failure, sudden death, stroke and cardiac rhythm problems, thus resulting in decreased quality of life and decreased life expectancy.
